River Transport – Caspian Sea Route Transportation

Boğaziçi Lojistik provides regular and reliable maritime transport services between the ports of the Sea of Marmara and the Caspian Sea, with a specialized team in Caspian route transportation and river logistics. Thanks to our sustainable and integrated logistics solutions, we offer our customers fast, cost-effective, and well-planned transportation advantages.

Regular River Transport to the Caspian Sea

Boğaziçi Lojistik operates regular voyages from the Sea of Marmara ports to the Caspian Sea ports with 6–8 vessels per month during the navigation season (April–November), when the Volga River is open. Our main destinations include:

  • Turkmenistan – Türkmenbaşı Port
  • Azerbaijan – Baku Port
  • Russia – Dagestan / Astrakhan
  • Kazakhstan – Aktau Port
  • Iran – Bandar Anzali Port

Within the scope of our multimodal transport solutions, we also provide rail and road transport services in addition to maritime shipping, ensuring uninterrupted logistics across the entire Caspian region.

Cargo Types Transported

Boğaziçi Lojistik has extensive experience in project cargo and heavy transport operations. The main types of cargo we handle include:

  • Reactors and energy equipment
  • TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine)
  • Steel structures
  • Machinery and industrial equipment
  • Barge and boat transportation
  • Heavy and oversized project cargo
  • Bulk cargo (metal, forestry products, etc.)
  • Container transportation

River-Sea Type Vessel Fleet

The vessels used in our operations consist of 3,000 – 5,000 ton capacity river-sea type ships. These vessels:

  • Low draft design
  • Ability to navigate shallow waters
  • Suitable for long-distance operations

enabling safe and efficient transportation on the Volga-Don route.

Transportation Process via the Volga-Don Canal

During the spring and summer seasons, Caspian Sea shipments are carried out via the Volga-Don Canal.

Operational process:

  • Marmara Port → Rostov: approximately 4 days
  • Rostov → Astrakhan: approximately 7 days
  • Astrakhan → Türkmenbaşı: approximately 3 days
  • Number of locks along the canal: 18 units

Thanks to this planning, regular and predictable transit times are ensured.

Transportation Process via the Volga–Don Canal

Following the closure of the Volga–Don Canal in November due to weather conditions, our operations continue via alternative routes. In this context:
  • Georgia – Poti Port
  • Georgia – Batumi Port
  • Ports in Russia
  • Ports in Ukraine

Shipments are being carried out through these ports, and uninterrupted transportation to the Caspian region is ensured via road and rail connections.
